I can’t believe it, it is as if there are no ends to miracles: In-depth blog 1 and 2
I have recently been accepted to visit a lab where cloning and several gene splicing activities occur, this is indeed a fascinating turn out. I am so lucky to have a mentor who accepted me at the exact time I was looking for one. I have to give a great thanks to Ms. Quiren Mulder ten Kate for making this all possible. I am going to visit a geneticist labs, it’s a treasure hold of information and technology beyond wonder. I am very pleased with this, since I have read several books on processes in genetics and now I am going to see one of these processes unfold in a lab. Though cloning isn’t a quick process I highly doubt they will be cloning multicellular organisms, they will most likely clone specific micro-organisms instead. Cloning multi-cellular organisms can take years and years just for this process to complete one clone. Yet the process of cloning is still very useful in cloning organs, this allows one to create a replacement organ over a long period of time to replace another organ. You simply take the nucleus of the cell of the specific organ, then take a stem cell, remove the nucleus from the stem cell and then place the uncles from that organ into the stem cell. Then give the stem cell a small electrical current and voila it begins to create the organ. Though this is only the simple and written form of the process. I am not sure if it is entirely accurate, though this process can’t replicate all organs, but it does removes the need of drugs to prevent your body from attacking the new organ in your body, since it is and exact replica of you old organ, but in better condition. Though there is one process I find more effective than this one and that is Bio-printing. This is probably another thing where clones of cells are needed. A bio-printer is fairly simple to an inkjet printer, the only difference is that it does not print out ink, instead it releases living cells in a gel that keeps the cells close together. The bio-printer prints three dimensional biological objects. Though this technique has not been used for organs, the only thing they have been able to bio-print so far is a blood vein. It is quite phenomenal that the human race can now print organs. Though only minor ones, it is still an amazing technological advancement.
